ARTtalks #02: About artists’ identity abroad + film “Letters from Wolf Street”

ARTtalks #02: About artists’ identity abroad + film “Letters from Wolf Street”

On 16th of October we invite you to the screening of the “Letters from Wolf Street” film from the Inconvenient Films festival, followed by a discussion.

The film tells the story of Arjun’s journey from India to Warsaw, and in the discussion we will compare this story with the experiences of Iraqi musician Kadim Mazin in Vilnius – exploring how newcomers build their place and community through art.

About the discussion:

After the film, we invite you to a conversation on creativity and identity abroad – how moving to another country, learning a foreign culture, and searching for one’s creative voice can become both a challenge and an opportunity for a new beginning. We will explore how art helps cope with uncertainty, create a sense of community, and find one’s place between cultures.

These themes will be reflected in Kadim Mazin’s story – an oud master originally from Iraq, who in Vilnius found the space to continue his musical journey, collaborate with Lithuanian artists, and build dialogue between different worlds through music.

The talk will be moderated by Jovita Mincevičiūtė, Program Manager at Artscape.

The discussion will be held in English.

Event program:
18:00–19:40 | Film screening: Letters from Wolf Street
19:40–20:15 | Discussion with Kadim Mazin
Venue: Skalvija, A. Goštauto g. 2, Vilnius, 01104

After the discussion, we invite everyone to an afterparty at Youngs Club – https://www.facebook.com/events/1605876484110800

About the series:
ARTtalks is a series of meetings that invite us to look at contemporary art as a way to talk about what matters. During these events, we meet artists and creators whose works reflect today’s challenges and encourage us to rethink established narratives. We explore how art can respond to issues of human rights, emotional well-being, environmental sustainability, and inclusion.

The discussion is part of the project GET THE NET (The Action Civil Society Cooperation in the fields of Youth, Education and Training – FPA, ERASMUS-2023-CSC-OG-FPA).
