Exhibition ART AS REFUGE

Exhibition ART AS REFUGE

Exhibition about Home, Identity, and Resilience by artists with refugee experiences

ART AS REFUGE – the first-ever exhibition in Lithuania that delves deep into art as a medium for navigating the complexities of changing lives, created by refugee artists living in the country.

Through the lens of artists who have experienced being refugees firsthand, this exhibition reveals intimate narratives of struggle, resilience, and reinvention.

⭕ Location: Gallery ‘8 akys ir ausys’
⭕ The exhibition will be open from December 5th to December 8th.
Hours:
12/05: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM
12/06–12/08: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
⭕ Exhibition opening event: December 5, 6:30 PM

In a world defined by upheaval and uncertainty, these artworks reflect the raw, personal journeys of those forced to leave their homes in search of new spaces, meaning and safety. Their stories – marked by vulnerability, resilience, and the quest for self – remind us of our shared human experience in a time of profound change.

Each artwork captures the essence of this migration journey: moments of personal reflection that reveal the invisible forces of displacement, the tension between past and present, and the enduring question of what makes a place truly “home.” ART AS REFUGE creates an opportunity for each of us to confront our own stories, connect with the complexities of identity, and rethink the boundaries of belonging.

Gallery ‘8 akys ir ausys’, an experimental space, a place of shifting forms and living symbiosis, a gallery, a community.

Exhibition entrance is free.

In the Exhibition’s area, filming or photography may take place. The material will be used for communication purposes.

The ART AS REFUGE Exhibition is created by individual art pieces of artists participating in the Artscape Mentorship Programme 2024.

The Artscape Mentorship Program powered by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is the first cultural educational initiative aimed at promoting creative activity among artists and creators who have found refuge in Lithuania. This year’s goal is to empower creative individuals with a refugee background to express their creative potential in collaboration with cultural organizations and arts & culture professionals in Lithuania by developing art and culture projects.

Mentorship Program partners: the Vilnius City Municipality, the Kazickas Family Foundation, the Lithuanian Culture Council, Goethe-Institut Vilnius
