World Refugee Day in Vilnius

On Thursday (June 19), World Refugee Day will be commemorated at the terrace of the Museum of Energy and Technology in Vilnius. There will be a free concert, creative workshops for children, and other activities. The event organizers, the arts agency ‘Artscape,’ invite attendees to close Refugee Week events during this free concert. S

Starting from June 12, the festival ‘Cultural Rhythms’ invited people to participate in dozens of events in Vilnius, Kaunas, and other cities. These events were created by migration and cultural organizations.

On the eve of World Refugee Day, during the concert, Saulius Petreikis will take the stage. He is a prominent musical phenomenon and one of the most expressive creators in Lithuania. His music features both traditional and ancient wind instruments, and his performances are known for their energy and a wide range of emotions.

Jazz performer, educator, and cultural project creator – Anna Sharifa, representing Tatar heritage, will present the project LALE. It is not just a collection of folk songs, but a living bridge between generations and nations: Tatars from Lithuania, Crimea, Turkey, and all over the world. The project revives forgotten melodies, gives a voice to our ancestors, and allows future generations to feel their roots.

The performance of Perfaratar Music Lab (PML) will bring together 7 musicians from Belarus, Lithuania, Georgia, and other countries. On stage, there will be reggae melodies, multifaceted cultural harmonies, and interactive improvisations. Performers: Ketevan, Anna Sharifa, moonika, xvs, Ignas from Ignalina, Nadzeya, Adomas Siela.

The commemoration of World Refugee Day in Vilnius is also part of the “Rhythm of Cultures” festival. The festival is dedicated to celebrating the contribution of refugees to society.

As of May 2025, there are approximately 45,000 refugees from Ukraine living in Lithuania, making it the largest refugee group in the country’s history of refugee acceptance. World Refugee Day is celebrated annually on June 20.
